LACQUER
Lacquer was first used in protective layer on usual objects providing tightness, hardness, strengh,durability and inalterability. Archaeological discoveries testify to its very old use. Very quickly, the aesthetic side of tis product expands, and rich and varied techniques are emerging attracting the eyes of the West to the far East from where comes this natural sap called Urushi in Japan and Qi ( Tsi ) in China. Its limited production, its complexity in its development and its application make that this art fits in with a research of quality and excellence. Natural lacquer adheres to various materials such as wood, metal, cloth, ceramic… It is applied in successive layers superimposed on prepared objets, generating transparency, depth and brilliance. Orhus workshop wishes to contribute to preserving this heritage handicraft and artistic offering services of conservation-restoration of ancient lacquered objects.
